Today's society is in the midst of a digital transformation, which has been accelerated by the current Covid-19 pandemic and the corresponding demands of social distancing and mobility limitations.

In this situation, the Ministry of Justice's project for the digital transformation of the Administration of Justice is most opportune and necessary.

This digital transformation of the notary's office involves two aspects:

A digital public document, which will require the matrix (original) of the paper document to be unfolded and replicated in digital format, in order to issue copies only in the latter format.

And notarisation by videoconferencing with identification of persons by electronic means.

The General Council of Notaries is studying the use of "digital" in unilateral acts, such as wills, powers of attorney and their revocation, and in commercial acts, such as commercial business, corporate powers of attorney and policies.

In any case, appropriate regulation is essential to guarantee the notary's public function, so that the citizen can be sure that the document is authentic, on receiving it on the official notarial portal, and identity is assured, with a recognised electronic signature.
